CARSTENSZ PYRAMID EXPEDITION
Climb the highest peak in Australasia continent and one of the most difficult of world's famous SEVEN SUMMITS; The Carstensz Pyramid 4.884 M at Irian Jaya, Indonesia and spend time in the central highland area visiting the famous Dani people, still very much living in the Stone Age to enjoy their amazing cultures and discover its beauty and wonder of Papua Island.

CARSTENSZ PYRAMID
At 16,023ft (4,884 m), Carstensz Pyramid is located in the central highlands of Irian Jaya (West Papua) – Indonesia and is the highest peak in Oceana, Australiasia continent. The mountain was named after Jan Carstensz, a Dutch explorer who was the first European to sight the peak. The mountain was first climbed in the 1960s by an expedition led by Heinrich Harrer of Eiger North Wall fame yet factors such as intricate permit requirements and conflicts in the region have led to Carstensz Pyramid not receiving many ascents.

ACCESS TO THE MOUNTAIN
We will be flying over the sensitive areas in a helicopter from Wamena in order to arrive at Carstensz Pyramid BC at 4,050 M in the tranquil alpine zone.

Using this approach, we are succesfully arranged 2 (two) Carstensz Pyramid Expedition, on March & July 2006 (with total 12 climbers from Japan, UK, US, Spain & Sweeden) – please visit our photo gallery for references on our recent expedition. We are now working for several upcoming Carstensz Pyramid Expedition in August onwards where some people already signed up with a guarantee of using helicopter to access the mountain. THE ROUTE
Carstensz Pyramid in Irian Jaya is a large limestone escarpment jutting out above the rainforest. We climb the mountain via its north face which joins the summit ridge before proceeding to the summit. Most of the climb is scrambling, but there are technical sections up to 5.8 in difficulty. We will fix ropes on much of the route to gain the summit ridge, which aide us on the descent. The summit ridge is a beautiful, exposed, knife-edged ridge with some really interesting climbing. You'll need to have some rock climbing experience prior to coming to Carstensz Pyramid. The island is very rainy and you should expect to be travelling and climbing in the rain at times.

EXPEDITION COST
Due to high cost on helicopter, our International Carstensz Pyramid Expedition requires minimum 6 persons in every departure. Please contact us for the expedition cost

Included on the expedition cost:
- All required permits in Jakarta and West Papua (Security Clearance & Traveling Permit)

Excluded:
- Insurances
- Domestic Flights (Jakarta – Jayapura – Wamena VV)
- Airport taxes
- Overweight on all flights
- Personal climbing and camping equipments
- Meals in Jakarta and Wamena
- Extra food and beverages
- Personal expenses (laundry, phone call, hotel’s minibar)
- Evacuation or rescue
- Any expenses due to the flight delay or cancel

HOW TO JOIN THE EXPEDITION
To book the expedition with us, please send your request to us by email.

PAYMENT
To confirm your booking, we require a deposit payment of USD 2,000 / Person in order in order to secure permits for the expedition and deposit on charter helicopter. Due to long procedures of permit application, we required deposit payment to be paid lately 45 days prior to the expedition departure. Once permits are gained, there are no refund on your deposit which has been paid to us.

While the remaining balance of the expedition cost, (including airfares – if booked through us) due on 14 days before expedition departure.

REFUNDS
Refunds are not made for unused services, except those which can be recovered from airlines for unused flights and these may be claimed though us (if the flight bookings made through us) or to the travel agencies who arranged your flight bookings.

CANCELLATION
If you cancel your booking there is no refund on each deposit and balance payment.

CHANGES TO THE ITINERARY
Carstensz Pyramid Expeditions are organized many months in advance and it may become necessary to make alteration on your plan. Where practical, we will advise you of such changes before you depart to Indonesia, although occasionally we may be forced to make changes en route due to the causes beyond our control. You should keep in touch with us.

TRAVEL INSURANCES
All of our tours are not covered by travel insurance. We recommend that you purchase travel insurance which covers loss of deposits, cancellation charges, luggage claims, medical expenses and others. The travel insurance should be arranged at the travel agencies in your country before you depart to Indonesia.
